Dear lord. So I've been pretty much knocked on my butt the latter half of the week. Given that this coincided with my kids' first days of school, this was roughly as entertaining as you might suspect. I'm still dealing with a lot of congestion and stuff, but I'm finally feeling good enough to post something, which gives you an idea of what I've been dealing with.
I am just slightly behind on...oh, a lot of things. I need to get back to writing and get caught up on my work. Of course, since I only have a week of my job left, I'll have some time to get to work on it. I need to make a phone call on Monday regarding another job that could kick in soon thereafter but I was just too sick to do it this week.
There are some bright spots this week, though.
1) I have a new mouse pad, and my mouse glides along it like it's all new and siny and awesome. Also, it has a picture of a whippet sitting on books wearing a pair of huge glasses, all in sepia tones. It makes me happy.
2) I broke down and bought myself a new flash drive, a 4 gig drive to replace my 128 mg drive. Yes, you read that right. Hush.
3) Alisdair had a good week at his new school and the program he's in is awesome. Good stuff. He's growing up so fast... he suddenly looks like a middle-schooler to me. He came home after school and worked on his homework of his own volition. He also actually cleaned his room when and how I asked him to today, without complaint! OMG. Amazing. Much praise for him, seriously.
4) Will loves being a 5th grader and is talking about his grades and schoolwork and everything. God, he's a great kid. I'm so excited to see the teenager and adult he's going to be.
5) I got a package I ordered a couple weeks ago from Amazon, which included a CD I've meant to get for years (Tidal, Fiona Apple), Alan Moore's book about writing for comics, and the concept album for The Scarlet Pimpernel, which has at least one song on it that I can't get through iTunes.
6) I have people who love me even when I'm sick.
7) I got my U-Pass sticker, which takes care of paying for transit through December. Huzzah.
I am... easily freaked out right now. I am having to stir and take action to cause the change I want to see, but I don't know what will come of it... and I'm frankly scared to find out. Whatever it is, it will likely involve a huge amount of change in my life. On the other hand, if I just stop and stay still, it will all pass me by...but that's so the wrong decision for me to make. That much, at least, I know. So I'm dwelling on the small stuff and trying to get pleasure from the tiny, stable things that don't make me dizzy to think about.
Or maybe that's just a lack of oxygen to my brain, thanks to my congested sinuses. We'll see.
