So yesterday I went to class in the morning, realized I'd left a textbook at home, checked my schedule, and decided to go home and get it before returning for class. After all, my class got out at 10:30 and my second class wasn't until 3. Easy peasy, right? I even went home and caught up on my reading before class. I was doing really well... except that the class didn't start at three, it ended at three. Somehow I put it down wrong on my planner. Hell.

Today I had one obligation, one class to attend. I did homework before class, making sure I had my readings done, left 45 minutes early for class, and got caught a mile out in a traffic snarl that took 20 minutes to get through. I was half an hour late before I even parked, and it's a film class, which means there was a screening that I would have interrupted halfway through. Did I go ahead and go? No, I turned my car around, got gas, and went home. Should I have gone? Almost certainly. Should I have left earlier? Absolutely. Will I do these things next week? Damn skippy. For today, though, I am at home, nursing my sense of guilt and doing more readings and homework to assuage it. Sigh. Oh well, upward and onward....

This happened to me exactly twice during my tenure at Akron. It was actually how I missed my very first college test. Fortunately my hot TA took pity on me and allowed me to make up the test in her office.

I tell ya, in another world - were she a little younger, and I a little older . . . and she a little less married, and I a little less engaged (at the time). Oh yeah, it would have been sweet.
