It's been pointed out to me that I'm supposed to run Session #7 tonight (which is unlikely to happen given flight times) so it's high time I wrote this summary. After all, I'm in the airport, I've completed a large section of homework, and I'm waiting for a show to download: what else have I got to do? :)
As promised, when last we left #5, we went back and revisited a number of loose ends. Some of these were resolved quickly, some weren't.
So. Morris spends all night watching the apartment of our People of Questionable Sense and is, by morning, a touch cranky. Everyone else has gone home and gone to bed to sleep off the aftereffects of the spell and/or whatever other influences were there. Everyone had bad dreams, although some were more interesting than others. Among the more interesting were Zeke's, who was attempting to stay awake when he had an odd sort of vision/dream, in which he saw Ginny in a white dress with a corrupting stain spreading across it. He tried to get her attention but couldn't, and then he felt that awful feeling again, and then he heard a coin drop and rattle on the floor. He woke up and tried to ask Sauriel "what the hell?" and got somewhat cryptic answers again. He did get told "don't touch him, and don't meet his gaze," which was small consolation. Overcome with that familiar dissatisfaction, he found it easier to stay up the rest of the night, pondering what it meant while Adia slept in his room.
Adia found herself dreaming of Lucas, the older guy, except it kept sorta getting mixed up with Mickey, her ex of doom. It's that strange mix of sexual attraction and revulsion -- really sort of disturbing upon awakening. Her ghost friend, Josh, kept looking at her with something between concern and "damn, girl, really?" all day long when he thought she wasn't paying attention.
Everyone else found their sleep disturbed by dreams they could not remember entirely, but they felt drained and generally stressed the next morning. Nobody was in a good mood.
So. Next day. Morris calls Zeke and Adia to come take over, because he's got shit to do, including sleep. Zeke and Adia get around, her more slowly than him, being not used to teamwork and stakeouts and that sort of thing. Zeke compensates by bringing coffee and bagels. Morris hangs out long enough to let them know what's going on and then takes off to deal with his own stuff.
Of course, naturally, about fifteen minutes later, Zeke gets a call. It's Lucas Smith, asking if he were still planning on having that meeting first thing in the morning as he'd asked. Zeke facepalms -- he can't leave the house unwatched, he can't miss the meeting... so he decides to leave Adia there to watch while he goes. Morris swore before he left that no one came out, so there's some question of how everyone got where they were going, but there's no time to investigate. Zeke calls Uno, who's following up another lead, and he arranges to send a friend over to wait with Adia so she's not left alone.
Once Adia's got a friend to wait with her, Zeke takes off to go meet with Lucas, Adam, and Ginny. He's late, but they went over for coffee, where he catches up with them. Ginny is feeling better and offers her sincere apologies for the break-in, says it was stupid, and she's not going to do anything like it again. Adam's got his arm around her and she's touching his knee like they're a long-term couple. Lucas offers to pay for any damages and asks to have the bill sent over to Mary's address--he explains that he's her uncle. Ginny (Virginia, for those playing along at home), says that's where she's staying, as she and Adam are together. Lucas is very nice and polite, with only the small zinger of "you do know our address, correct?" to Zeke, and the three of them leave. Zeke notices that, just as the other night, Adam doesn't talk. He makes a point as they're leaving to ask Adam a question. The kid answers, but very quietly. He has to leave Lucas and Ginny in order to make his voice heard -- and it's much stronger then for some reason. He returns to Lucas and Ginny, Lucas puts his hand on Adam's back to show him out the door, and they all leave.
Meantime, Uno had headed over to Duff's to check in with the Changelings and see what's going on. He finds one of his friends there who was at the rave and fell under the spell. She was really unhappy with what happened and not sure what to do about it. She didn't have any information on what else was going on, though. Uno was here when he got the call from Zeke and sent one of his changeling friends over. From this, he decided he probably needed to bring in the big guns--time to talk to Mom. He headed out to meet Adia and take over from his friend, but on the way out he ran into Dylan and Danny.
Now--Danny'd gone home with Dylan the night before so they could both sleep it off in relative safety and someone could look after Danny while the dope worked its way out of her system. Upon awaking, they felt somewhat at loose ends, and so decided that probably the best thing they could do was go check out the warehouse where the rave was and see what else could be learned. They took the bus, got there, got questioned by a truck driver who wondered what these two fish out of water were doing walking in that neighborhood, and generally got there in a decent amount of time. There were no circles, no signs of thaumaturgy inside, meaning that whatever Lucas did, it was spur of the moment, powerful, and breaking one of the Laws of Magic in a breathtakingly casual fashion. Major no-no. Dylan and Danny both decide to try the Sight to get a feeling for the spell, with Dylan going first. They both do really well, although it's a much greater strain on Dylan. Effectively, what they discover is that the spell is powerful, was intended to distract and trap people within its effect, and had no permanent component -- oh, and whoever cast it is an incredibly sophisticated wizard and also unconventional in his spell use--the construction didn't look like anything Danny'd ever seen from anybody.
Having learned all they could, they decided to go get food and coffee. The cross-town bus dropped them off near Duff's, and so they met Uno on his way out. The three of them then went to go meet up with Adia and Zeke.
Meantime meantime, Morris stops by One Eyed Mike's to pick up his surveillance equipment, as Mike had called Morris to let him know it was all there. Mike didn't know of anything specifically going on, but he was going to keep an eye out (ha ha) to see what he could find out.
Once they were all together again, Uno's friend took off. They spotted someone watching them from the window of Mary's apartment, and realized that while Morris had possibly been stealthy, the group was possibly not. They checked the cars against the list Morris had given them to make sure none of the cars on the street that they were aware belonged to the group had moved. Zeke wondered how they'd gotten out without anyone (like Morris) seeing, and so Dylan got out his book and did a bit of divination to see if he could figure out the patterns of movement, which he did -- they left out the back and took a car or a bus a couple of blocks over, out of line of sight.
Realizing that they'd been spotted, it was decided to break up the group again. Uno stayed behind to watch, while the rest went to get food. They headed off for the diner, trying to figure out where to go next. While waiting for food, Adia got a call: Mickey had information and wanted to set up a meeting. He was sleazy and creepy and overly familiar, while at the same time being someone that Adia couldn't tell to just go away -- he had the information they needed, after all. He agreed to meet up later that day, with whomever Adia wanted to bring, in a somewhat more private setting so they could talk freely. He reminded her that she was purchasing this information, and should think about what she wanted to offer, with all that sentence could possibly imply. Yes, ick is the correct response.
On that note, we wrapped for the night. Next time: Meeting with the demon-sponsored Mickey, setting up surveillance on the ritual space, additional conflicts, and meeting Uno's mom! Stay tuned. :)
