So I'm done with school and Matt pointed out that there has not been character creation in some time, so here we are. Today's entry is Hellcats and Hockeysticks, a fun little indy game in which you are a schoolgirl at St Erisian's School for Girls, which is a take on St. Trinian's, a school for "young ladies" featured in comics, books, and film since the 1940s in Britain.
Game: Hellcats and Hockeysticks
Publisher: Corone Design
Books Needed: Just the core book
Level of Familiarity: I was supposed to play it a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get to. Whee!!!
One: Concept! Think about who you want to make, or else just be random, according to the book. The students are older, 16-18 yrs old.
Honestly, I don't have a concept to start with, and I always sort of enjoy a certain amount of randomness in my chargen if there's not an idea to start with. In this instance, I will name my character Moira. And given that.... she's Scots, at least on one side of her family. Perhaps she's here.... Oh! She's at St. Erisian's because her parents died, leaving her only family her stuffy English great-uncle, who's prejudiced against Scotland because of unfortunate luck in picking football matches and an allergy to salmon. He didn't want anything to do with her, so he packed her off to St. Erisian's, as the price was right and he wouldn't have do deal with her at all. And her last name is Grant. Moira Grant. There. It says less about Moira than her great-uncle Hugh (no, not Grant -- that's her dad's last name, and Hugh was her mother's uncle).
Two: Clique! Which clique is she in? There's a lot of them. Well, her parents did die... I think that places her firmly in the emo/goth contingent. She gets a Clique Ability and a Curriculum based on her choice. Her ability is "Visage of Terror!" which apparently means she can look really scary. Her classes are Games (Track & Field), Home Ec, Religious Studies, and Music.
Three: Skills! 20 pts, 5 of which have to be on your classes. Ratings are 1-5, with a 1:1 spending ratio. I've given her Home Ec 4, Current Affairs 3, Drama 3, English 2, T&F 2, Music 2, Religious Studies 4.
Four: Willpower! Everyone gets 10 pts to start. Aaaaallllrighty then.
Five: Personality Traits! Upon looking at the list.... Um... eh. She's sullen. It's like bitchy, only quieter.
Six: Rivalries! So, from within the group of PCs, you pick a best friend and a rival. There are, however, only two of us. In that case, the other PC is one or the other. Hmm. Definitely better with more players at this step. I don't really want a frenemy, which is if I choose both (though the book doesn't list that as an option, oddly enough), so I think it'll be best friend. Her name is Stella. She's a merciless flirt and tends to be a bit oddly random from time to time -- the inner monologue skips a beat now and again. She's a good egg, though. No poisoning for her.
Hmm. I also have to pick a secret loathing about her... she hogs the bathroom. Really, she's in there all the time. And if she spills more of that hair dye or whatever it is on my towels again... seriously, the day of reckoning will come.
And... yay! That's it! Moira and Stella. How sweet. :)
