So, my friend Jason Blair ([livejournal.com profile] amanofhats ) has this game called Little Fears. It's been out on and off for years, and most recently he released the Nightmare Edition, with a new system and awesome cover art and all that good stuff. He's got the "Happy Birthday, Little Fears" edition coming out, which is based on the original 2001 release, along with some updates and errata and clarification and whatnot. There are some scenarios and a couple of supplements released for the Nightmare Edition, all of which I highly recommend that you try out. PDF or print, it's worth the money.

Matt's naturally making a character along with me, which you'll find here: innocent-man.livejournal.com/529306.html

Game: Little Fears Nightmare Edition
Publisher: FunSizedGames
Books Needed: Just the core book.
Level of Familiarity: On and off, though more with the 2001 release than the Nightmare Edition.

Characters in this game are school age, six to 12. I'm going to be an 8-year-old girl. Matt's character is Hunter, also 8, but a boy. We're both going into third grade -- we were previously in the same room, but this year we've been put in different classrooms. He's very upset about this -- apparently he likes my freckles. I'm just nervous--the teacher is new and I don't know her, and I'd lots rather be in Mrs. Williams' classroom. She's nice, and her hair is pleasantly frizzy.

Abilities: I get 8 points to spend between Move, Fight, Think, Speak and Care. You get one point in each to start, and spend the 8 on top of that. I have Move 3, Fight 2, Think 3, Speak 2, and Care 3.

Traits: Good: I can Speak well when I know the answer.
Bad: It's hard for me to Think when I feel pressured.

Qualities:
Here we come up with character aspects that sort of act as skills.
Rachel is a popular kid. (+2, that's her primary)
She is good at making friends (+3).
She is a helper (+3).

Now two unrelated ones: She is good at remembering things (+1). She also has cute freckles (+1).

Now two bad ones: She trips a lot (-1), and she's allergic to peanuts (-1).

She gets 8 points of health, so that's good.

Virtues: Belief 5 (13 - age)
Wits 7 (Think + 4)
Spirit 10 (it starts there)

Stuff: Rachel has four items she carries with her.
1) A 5-color pen, which helps her remember things, both by chewing on the tip and making notes (+1 Think).
2) Band-aids, for the inevitable scrapes and cuts. They protect her from damage (-1 Damage).
3) A Hello Kitty Backpack, which lets her find a small useful thing to help people with once/day.
4) An anonymous note that she's kept since last year, which reads "You ar verry speshal." It's from Hunter, though she doesn't know that. It gives her -1 Scare from monsters, and +1 Care.

Questions:
My best friend is my cousin, Jessie, but she lives across town and goes to another school. I see her every weekend, though. I like Hunter too, but he's a boy.
The one grownup I can trust is my mom. I wish she didn't have to work all the time.
Once I lost my purple and blue necklace, which was special because my dad gave it to me before he went away. My mom got me another one, but it's not the same.
The one place monsters can't get me is under the willow tree in the backyard.
The one thing monsters can't touch is cherry soda pop.
I don't go near the alley two blocks over because the shadows there are really creepy, and it's where the monsters live.
My biggest fear is that nobody really likes me.
The thing I like least about myself is my freckles.
The thing that always gets me into trouble is I talk too much.
When I get scared, I try to do things too fast, so I have to slow down or else I'll trip over things.

Goals: And now there are goals, one short term, one long term.
Short term: To find my necklace.
Long-term: To get back into Mrs. Williams' class.

Family: Rachel lives with her mom. Her dad doesn't live with them any more. She spends part of the time after school with her grandmother, and part with Ms. Collins next door, and part with her Aunt Sophie and Jessie on the weekends.

And lastly, her secret, something that if it got out would ruin her: Rachel steals change from her mom's purse and spends it on candy at the corner store on the way home from school.

And there's Rachel! Poor Hunter. Maybe she'll get over the idea of boy cooties before things get too far along. :)

Awesome! Rachel sounds like a fun character. If I ever run LFNE for you and/or Matt, we could easily use these characters.

Eee! That would be fun. :)

Curious though: Did you two intend to create a pair of characters named after an New Zealand supermodel?

*laugh* Um, no. It wasn't discussed. I was just trying not to use an "A" or an "M" name, because I gravitate toward those. :) He'd already picked Hunter.
