Well, tonight is the last night of what has simultaneously been one of the best and worst years of my life. Tonight we are not going out, or doing much of anything social at all. Instead, our children have invited a friend over to spend the night, so David and I will spend the evening snacking on sausage, cheese, crackers, and fruit and drinking sparkling apple cider, playing World of Warcraft and doing small bits of work on a project. In return a friend of mine and his wife will get to spend their first night alone in ages, and bring in the new year together (I believe their celebration of choice will be watching the extended version of Return of the King).

My resolutions for the New Year are pretty easy: more of what I did in 2004. Keep going to the gym. Keep refusing to settle. Keep taking care of myself. Keep making a life here. There are things I want to do still, but most of them aren't feasible until I have another car in the household (or fewer obligations for the one car to keep). Still, I know without a doubt that this will happen in the next few months. It is inevitable.

To all my friends and everyone who touched my life this year, making it better, fuller, richer -- thank you. To everyone who listened when I needed it and let me know there were people who cared -- bless you. To those who went out of their way to give me a kick in the butt when I needed it most-- you saved me this year. It meant more to me than you could possibly know.

Happy New Year, everyone. May the coming year bring you all the good things you deserve -- and more.

God bless, Michelle. May 2005 bring you everything you want and then so much more!

Someone (a Buddhist nun friend, of all people) wished me exciting adventures in 2005. I told her that I'd had enough of those in 2004 to last me for a while.

Have a boring 2005, if you know what I mean.

Happy new year, Michelle. You're one of the bravest, coolest people I know. Keep rockin' in 05.
