...of love, and monsters.
It turns out that both of my children are affianced. Alisdair has a girlfriend named Amy. I am assured that there has been no kissing, but that both are aware of the relationship and approve of the situation. Some talk of future marriage has occured, but nothing definite as of yet. How Alisdair will handle this considering his previous engagement to a little girl at his last school is yet to be seen.
William, on the other hand, formerly of the "girls are icky" school of thought and still of the "Kissing! Yech!" school of thought, told me this morning that he is going to marry Shawna, a little girl in his class. This is somewhat problematic as I was told his girlfriend was formerly Kendra, but I believe it will all work out in the end. It's only natural to be somewhat behind the times of one's children's attachments, after all. It is possible, though, that he's contemplating bigamy (or at least one on the side), as Kendra is in his after-school care and he doesn't see her the rest of the time. More research is forthcoming.
In other news regarding Monsters, Alisdair went to the bookshelf this past week, declared his intent and anticipation of reading the Monster Manual, and proceeded to do so. Over the last week, I've heard about the vagaries and cool stuff of aboleths, bullettes, and chokers. I'm torn between motherly pride, geek enthusiasm, and a vague fear that I have somehow materially damaged my son. :) I'm taking solace for the latter, though, in the events up top.
Oh, and Will is really reading now. He can read the Cat in the Hat (complete with tone of voice as appropriate), other Seussian books, and assorted Level-1 reader stuff all on his own now. I'm really, really proud of him. :)
