Alisdair has a cough and a bit of a fever today/last night, so I kept him home today. I'm working on files from work and generally surfing the web and puttering around the house, doing dishes and whatnot. I'm going to try to work in a DDR session today, since I'm not at work to use the gym there. I finally got my nightstand put together and I put my violets in a little pot and put them beside my bed on it, and it all suddenly feels like a bedroom. I'm very happy with it.

In other news, I started in a second roleplaying game. mearls is running it, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun. My character in particular is a 17 year old girl who is sick of the small town she grew up in, and was determined to get out. At a younger age, she purchased a kit and book from a traveling peddler called "The Secret Art of Thievery," which came with a sub-standard set of lockpicks, some soft slippers, a really cheesy dagger, a black mask, and a book of the same title. She's been practising in the woods for a couple of years, and when she felt she'd mastered the material, she took up with the first paladin on a quest who came through her village (he was very impressive looking, and frankly, nobody ever came through her village. It was a sign). Her name is Cora, and while she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, she's head and shoulders above most of the rest of the party (at a 12 Int, she's tied for first place). She has thus far killed snakes (AAUUGH!! Snakes! *scream* *thwak*) and finished off a bugbear. She has failed to pick a lock (she claims the door was busted) and is in doubt of the book's veracity when it claims that it's better to be behind someone when you fight them, as she has found the getting behind someone bit to be far more difficult than the book seems to indicate. I have become sorely tempted to post updates here as Cora's letters to the book's authors:

Dear Sekrit Art of Theivery,

I never thought this would happen to me, but I'm now officially a thief! ....

and so forth. I think it would rock. I have yet to see if there's time to do it. We shall see. This makes two games I'm in that I'm really, really enjoying, and neither of which involve David! Yay!

Oh, and my son Will can do the Cabbage Patch. This is terribly cute, but somewhat disturbing.

I hope Alisdair's feeling better soon. Glad to hear about the settling in and the gaming! :)

At the risk of sounding completely glaikit, what is the Cabbage Patch?

It's that dance move where people sort of hold their arms out even with their chest and move them in circles, parallel to the ground, while moving their upper body in a circle as well, typically ending up on the opposite side of the circle as their hands (hands left, body right, and so forth). It's a sort of old hip-hop dance move.
