Time for lawyers.

So now I have an initial consultation with a lawyer planned for tomorrow morning. David got in an insurance settlement from a car accident in which he was a passenger earlier this year. It's enough to cover the first half of the fee, so we're starting the process, as I have an extra check coming up soon-ish with which to pay the other half.

I'm all wierded out. I suppose it's the way of things in that you'll wait forever for something to happen, dealing with months on top of months of nothing, only to suddenly rush forward at blinding speed and have everything done at once.

Gah. Wake me when it's over.

Sorry to hear you're weirded out.

It does indeed get better. This is the worst bit, actually -- the accounting of the marriage in legal documents and court papers. After this, life becomes much, much saner.

It's mostly just the sudden change of gears... part of me keeps going, "Hold on, wait a minute...." I know sooner is better than later, but it seems like it should be more difficult somehow. I don't know. I suppose it's just me looking around for that size-57 shoe that's got to be waiting to fall and crush me, somewhere.

The overwhelming reaction I had the minute my ex signed the divorce papers and (literally) walked out of my life for good was profound, deep, calming relief.

If it seems less-than-difficult at the moment, take that as clinching proof that you're making the right moves.
