Well, so much for the girly portion of this month's finances. My car started overheating on the way to choir with the boys. We got there, I topped off the fluids (that weren't that low) and went inside. By the time we came back out, the car had cooled off. David's out of town, so we didn't have much in the way of backup available. We started back down to the house, but about 2/3 of the way, it overheated again. It took over two hours to get home, basically finding a place to stop, waiting for the motor to cool off, and then starting up again. My heater quit working earlier today, so I think that's related and makes me suspect the thermostat. In any case, my choices are to dump yet more money into the car (which I paid off this month) or get a new one. Given that I don't have the $300 minimum to get the car fixed if my suspicions are correct (and really, to get it street legal, its' going to cost me something closer to $1200+), I find myself deeply frustrated.

And getting a pretty dress is the least of my concerns now. Sigh.

Stupid idea: disconnect the battery cables for a while, then reconnect. It'll screw with all your preset radio stations and your clock, but it may also reset a faulty computer chip governing temperature.

I had this problem with my '92 Escort, and that simple solution worked.

Hmm. Couldn't hurt, I guess. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Yeah, that's what always bothered me about owning a car. It seemed that like clockwork, once a year, something would break. And it didn't matter what it was, it would always be around $1,200 to get it fixed.

Well of course. They're specially designed to do that. ;)

The trouble with my care last summer was the thermostat. It was not so expensive, but then again I have a 19-year-old car, with a minimum of computerized innards.
