Okay, so my Christmas music stash is lacking. I'm trying to collect a lot of the stuff I grew up listening to, but it can be hard to find. Given how many music, internet, and Google masters I know, though, I thought I'd pool the collective mastery of my friends and see if anyone had any suggestions.

Specifically, I'm currently looking for an MP3 recording of "Christmas is for Children," by Glen Campbell. Despite my general lack of fondness for the country music genre, there are artists I'm fond of despite everything. Glen Campbell is one of them. I don't like everything he did by a long shot, but this song in particular was on an album we found when I was a kid in a bunch of stuff my dad got at an auction, along with just a bunch of other people doing Christmas songs from the late sixties. He actually wrote the song, from what I've been able to discover, and it's surprisingly good. It's stuck with me all this time, and I'd like to have it again -- preferably without having to purchase an entire album of stuff.

I'm also trying to track down a Christmas song my dad taught me as a kid. He doesn't remember where it came from. It bears a suspicious resemblence, at least from the title and general feel, to a song apparently last played on the Doctor Demento show on December 19, 1976, called "Santa Brought Me Choo Choo Trains," by Spike Jones and his City Slickers. I'd love to get an MP3 of this, too. I can't seem to find the lyrics, but the title seems close enough to bear looking into.

Any ideas?

I don't even think this "Choo-Choo Trains" is on my Spike Jones Christmas album (the logical place to look), but I'll take a look through the collection when I get home to see what I can find. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of Christmas music, so the pickings may be slim.

And no, it isn't on that album. Checked that already. It seems to be of a 1953 vintage, at least if the sheet music listing for it was correct.

Okay, how about quoting some lyrics that you remember; maybe someone'll have a lightbulb.

Santa brought me choo-choo trains
for Christmas Eve this year,
Just the kind I'd asked him for
So pretty I could cheer.
I hurried down the stairs before
the sun was in the sky,
but Daddy got there first,
so I can kiss my trains goodbye.

Now, I asked for a train,
I begged for a train,
But Daddy just shook his head.
Now Santa brought it just for me
but Daddy plays with it instead.
Hmph.

Santa brought me choo-choo trains
for Christmas Eve this year,
Just the kind I'd asked him for
So pretty I could cheer.
I hurried down the stairs before
the sun was in the sky,
but Daddy got there first,
so I can kiss my trains goodbye.

Not sure about those songs, but I've got close to 2gb of Christmas music, including lots of old classics sung by the likes of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Kearst, Nat King Cole, etc. If I could find a P2P service I liked that would allow you to look specifically for me, you'd be welcome to them.

If you find such a beast, let me know, please. *hug*

I have none of these tunes, but I'd also recommend the Brian Setzer Orchestra version of the "Nutcracker Suite" and a version of "Joy To The World" by an otherwise unremarkable band called "The Butties" (which is constructed almost exclusively of classic Beatles riffs).

I can get you both of those, no sweat.

Heh. I'd take those.
