I have come to a conclusion.

I don't want to watch Buffy by myself. It's not that it's scary (by and large it isn't, though there is some creep factor there in some episodes), it's not that I don't like it.... it's just that it seems to me that what's good about it is best shared with people with whom one can natter about it during/immediately after the viewing, and what's bad about it is more obvious without others around.

I'd like to see more of it, but I'm not doing it on my own. Friends, should I visit you, I'm happy to steal your Buffy DVDs and watch them with you. I ain't doin' it on my own, though. Time to send this puppy back.

Oh yeah, I have a ton of those, including the ones you mentioned.

But even things like - I just recently sent back Children Of Men unwatched, because I'm just not in the headspace for it. I am certain I will watch it one of these days, but at the moment, I'm just not up for it. So I sent it back, and I'll get it some other time. :)
