Surreal

Okay, so good news/bad news.

Good news: Went to the eye doctor today along with the kids. Both boys are slightly farsighted, but not so much so that the doctor feels glasses are needed. It's suspected this will change as they get older (as Alisdair's needed correction is less than Will's). I myself picked out a really fun new pair of frames that I'm looking forward to.

That's not the surreal part.

The surreal part is that my eyes have evidently improved so greatly in the 3+ years since my last exam that I no longer need glasses all the time. One eye has only a .25 correction (negligible, to say the least), and the other is roughly 1/5th of what it was -- something like a .75, maybe.

Bad news: the only time the optometrist has seen such astounding changes in vision is when the person is either diabetic or close to becoming so.

Let me say that again: Diabetic or close to becoming so.

I have an appointment scheduled in the morning to meet my doctor and get a referral for chiropractic care. I'm now going to be asking for a blood test as well, and will likely have to reschedule that. If I'm very lucky, I'll be able to get this done in the next week or so. Otherwise, it could be a month of not knowing one way or the other. Ugh.

As to the condition itself, I'm fully confident of my ability to make necessary changes to diet and such to get things under control -- heck, I've already started down that path with the trainer and general diet changes. It scares me a bit, but more in the "sense of your own mortality" way than in blind panic, which is something I can deal with. Not knowing is far more of an issue for me -- hopefully one that can be resolved soon. Ugh.
