eurydicebound: (accident)
1) My gym is closing. I've been going there for more than a year, and I'd fulfilled my original contract and was down to month-to-month. Apparently, though, they've not managed to make enough money, so they're closing their doors. They have made arrangements with another gym, Pure Fitness (part of a regional chain), to take over our contracts on the same terms. I was without kids yesterday, so I went over to check it out. The facility seems nice enough, the hours are better, and by paying $50 down I was able to knock nearly $10 a month off my monthly payments (their current special). I am still nervous about it, though. I liked the other place, though there were a couple of things I'd have done differently. This is also a co-ed gym, whereas my last one was a women-only facility. That'll be different. Of course, maybe I can get a date. :)

2) One of my classes (Comparitive Religion) was cancelled as of yesterday afternoon for insufficient enrollment. There were two other sessions of it, but they were both full (and online classes to boot). This would be less annoying if a) I could find anything else to fit that time slot (MW 7:45 PM -- 10 PM) and/or I had not already purchased the books and applied for financial aid based on the number of credits I was previously taking. I have since more or less dealt with this situation. I'm now taking US History: The US as a Global Power after 1848. Given that my formal education has included absolutely no history past the Civil War era (with a passing nod to Reconstruction) this should be somewhat interesting, I hope. It's also an online class, as there wasn't any other option at this late date (classes start Monday). Those cost more, so whereas everything was previously paid off, I now owe an extra $45 or so, which just annoys me to no end.

Luckily, I had managed to save the reciept for my now-useless books, which I took back to the bookstore on my way into work this morning. The silly thing was that I couldn't simply exchange them, but had to get a refund (which will be back in my account tonight) and then purchase them separately. This would be of no issue if I had, say, money right now, but since I don't, I have to wait until I'm paid to purchase the new book -- and if there's a used copy of it available and/or time to find a used copy online, I'll be deeply surprised. I am due to have my first partial paycheck in my account tomorrow, though, so hopefully I'll be able to get the book tomorrow morning and/or Thursday morning. I'll admit, I was far happier with the idea of my return to academia consisting of English Comp 101 and Comparitive Religion than EC101 and a history class, but I should be able to manage. I just have to remember that I'm not the same person I was back at 19, so there's no reason my student experience will be the same either. *cross fingers*
