So today I worked from home (and various errand-like locations) since the boys' summer program had ended and David was at PAX.

Took a little while in the middle of the day to run down to the University, wherein I took care of some administrative tasks -- namely getting my student ID and some of my books. :) Thus far it appears that while I may have a number of books before all is said and done, they'll all be normal books and not OMG-how-much-does-this-cost-again? books. This makes me quite pleased.

The boys were with me, and we did quite a bit of walking around. I went in the building my classes will be in, passed by my advisor and said hello, found my way around the library ground floor, walked over to the bookstore, and just generally familiarized myself and them with the place. I still feel overwhelmed by it all, but oddly buying books made it all seem a little more managable, more of a feeling like I can actually do this rather than "can't sleep, school will eat me."

In other news, I'm making an effort to clean up my diet, and I'm reminded exactly how expensive it is not to eat crap. Gah. I can manage it if it's just me, but for me and the boys.... eeesh. We'll see how long I can swing it.

Oh, and in case it comes up, happy Labor Day everyone. I hope your labors are not too intensive and that you have time this 3-day weekend to catch your breath. :)

Crockpot meals can be really handy. I've been doing more of that lately, and throwing stuff into the freezer.

Agreed. They stretch your food budget, and they're very easy to do. And with fall and winter months approaching, this becomes even more desirable. Yum! I'll bet the boys would like something like homemade chicken soup. :)

Not to mention Alton Brown's recipe for steel cut oats in the crockpot. This is insanely good.

That introduction is precious. No wonder my boyfriend likes watching Alton Brown, aside from the foodie angle. He keeps hoping he'll catch a show being taped (he lives in the Atlanta area); maybe we'll get lucky when I go visit.

Great link!

Wow, that looks really good. Definitely a reason to go crock-pot shopping.

As for school: hugs! I understand the anxiety. You'll do well, though. You're further along than I am in many respects, and I'm doing swimmingly so far.

Yes, but it's the difference between community college and university that's getting to me. As I said, though, buying books makes it feel more manageable somehow. Instead of reliving my previous failures (only projected onto a larger, more prestigious institution), I'm dealing with a more concrete thing that I can handle. It's a lot better.
