Okay, so here's the truth of the matter: I love buying presents for people.

I love giving people stuff that suits them. I love taking the time to grab stuff that says, "This is for X!" where X is someone I know and am fond of. I love feeling like a svelter, more attractive version of Santa Claus and making everyone I know really, really happy to know that someone thought of them. I love these things even more than getting stuff (and I love getting cool stuff).

Of course, the other side of buying stuff for everyone I know is that it would require a HUGE amount of money, especially since I started freelancing and the number of friends and people I would love to get stuff for expanded exponentially. With this in mind, I wish to start a new tradition: the virtual Christmas gift.

Here's how this is going to work. If you would like a virtual present, post here and let me know. Naturally, if I don't know you well, it won't be quite as cool a gift, whereas if I know you I'll see if I can find something uber-perfect. I'll post a link to the website with the item in question and/or a picture thereof. This will then be what I would have gotten for you had I the money to do so. :) And, of course, the best thing about virtual presents is that there's no shipping, no lines to stand in, and no guilt! Presents Away!!!

*grin*

Hey, this sounds like fun. I'm in!

See, I don't know if this would really be useful for you or not, but I think the cool points outweigh the potential uselessness. Besides, you enjoy working with graphics, and I know how useful it can be to have tons of windows open while you're coding (or gaming)...

Sorry, can't figure out how to show an image for that one. You'll just have to go and look it up. It was really close, btw, between this and one of those mini PCs... dang, but they're cool.

Oh, the double monitor would rock on toast! I don't do much programming at home any more, but it would be great for when I'm photoshopping and chatting with friends online...

Thanks,babe!

And, of course, though I can't link to it, what I'd probably really love to be able to just send you would be a round-trip ticket to the US, complete with hotel reservation and tickets to GenCon. There's no spiffy link for that, though. :)

True, but I really do appreciate the thought!

I would like a virtual present to make up for all the piles of food gifts I can't eat because they are full of butter!

Okay, here's my thought. I'm really torn between these two... the first I think is more the right size for you, but I'm very fond of the look of the second. Of course, since they're all custom, I'd probably just arrange to do some combination of the two. I suspect the color on the first looks better in person than in the photograph.

I'm doing funky HTML code to get this to show right, so if it doesn't work, I'll put it in as a new entry.

Okay, so the link for more info on the first picture is actually the second picture, and the text below the second picture is a link to more info on it. I got it half right, anyway. :)

OOOOOHHH! I have been eyeing that first on one the Alembic site and dreaming for some time. I didn't even have to look at the link to know where that pic came from.

How did you know I need a 5 string as my fifth bass guitar? :-)

(Don't mention it to Theron he is starting to get kinda sore about the collection of stuff)

Thanks!

Well, I know what I want to get you, and I may still. Well, eventually. Maybe by GenCon or something. It requires getting your size though. However, you've likely seen it in one of those commercials for Blistex Complete Moisture lip goo. grin.

Okay, so what are you "getting" me?

Date: 2004-12-27 01:06 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] anaka.livejournal.com
The world is filled with cool things, and I thought and thought about this. In the end, though, the best thing I could think to get you would be A year's paid babysitting whenever you needed it with a reputable local firm. Or Mary Poppins, whoever was closest. :)

Virtual gifts are the best thing. None of that BS of cost limit, availability limit thrown in to muddle matters. (Or lack of dexterity for the created at home gifts... ;)

I could not tell you why, but when I saw these things, I thought of you. Not so much the purple, probably more the topaz, but still. I think they rock. :)

I would get you a gift certificate to this place, because I can't possibly pick just one or two. Here's the catalog pages of their men's shirts. :)

Yes. That would do quite nicely. I think the Tsunami shirt on page 2 is the one I'd virtually buy with your virtual gift certificate. And the Green Arrow on page 1 is a pattern I think I'm going to try to duplicate the next time I dye some shirts up.

Thanks kindly,

Spike Y Jones

It would be a new meme! Mwahahahahahaha.....

Erm. Of course, if you'd like to. :)

I'd get you a trip with airfare and tickets to the Queen tour stop of your choice. Oh, and you'd have to get me a t-shirt.

Schweet! That would be perfect. Now all we need is a schedule (whether on your dime or mine, I *am* going to see this if it hits the States anywhere close to me...).

You'd have to send me a size (and probably a size for the boys, too, since I'd feel obligated to let them share in my Queen fanboyishness...), but that could be dealt with later.
