Okay, so two thumbs way, way up for the Columbia City Bakery. After dropping the kids off this morning, I thought I'd wander down and see what the place was like. I'd heard of them a little while back from an article in the little local paper, but I'd never found them. Well,
iamnikchick was kind enough to point out their building for me (they aren't open after 2 PM and they have a small sign) and so this morning I stopped by. They had a line, but it moved quickly and was worth it. I got something called a "morning bun" as my breakfast splurge (croissant dough wrapped in a spiral and baked with cinnamon and sugar). Oh wow. They also had all sorts of bread available, but I only brought a couple of dollars worth and so couldn't splurge that much. I won't make that mistake next time. They also had potato roll samples, of which I partook as well. Very good.
Other delights of which to sample next time: marscapone cinnamon spirals, twice baked croissant with almond cream, pumpkin-nut muffins, pain au chocolat, savory croissant (broccoli and cheese), cornmeal muffins, huckleberry-cranberry danish, quince and cream danish.... the list goes on. Not counting regular croissants and more types of fresh bread than you can shake a stick at. I think I have found a new indulgence. Go me.
